I posted about Memphis on the Wiki. I didn't hear it from the candidate or the department, but I trust the source. Of course it could be bad information since it's not firsthand.
I was informed by someone at Queens College that they wouldn't be acting on any application until 12/8. So, it will likely be at least a few more weeks before they have a shortlist.
anybody knows what happened with american? it came in and out of the wiki list in recent days. somebody was also telling that they were calling people for interviews.
I sent a follow-up e-mail asking about the status of my application to the chair of the search committee for a position that's listed on wiki as in the process of interviewing. That was a week ago and I have not heard anything back from that person. If I've been rejected, why won't they just come out and tell me? I have no idea how to interpret this.
Also, if rejection letters have been mailed from a particular school, and I haven't received one, should I assume I've made some sort of cut?
University of San Francisco was listed earlier as having invited candidates for interviews. Now they are no longer on that list. Does anyone know if the original information was incorrect or if it was deleted for some other reason?
Me too! It would be very helpful if the person(s) deleting information also shared their rationale for doing so. Especially when the information they delete has already been part of the blog discussion. That way we would all know what is going on instead of things mysteriously popping up and disappearing from the wiki.
Does anyone have more information on the Wisconsin-Madison job? It's now listed as "job offered, search closed". If so, that was really fast, given that it was a Nov. 15 deadline! Or is there more than one search? I'm wondering about the open junior search.
I see Kent State up on the offer made and accepted/position closed list, but I know there's more than one position. Can anyone confirm that how many offers have actually been accepted?
According to the wiki, the UMass Amherst (race/immigration) position has been closed. Does that mean an offer has been made and accepted? And is so, is that the same position that is still listed in the wiki as (offer made)? Could the person who last updated the wiki re UMass Amherst please clarify.
I know that U of Illinois at Chicago has a short list (that they have contacted) for the urban/orgs job. I don't know anything about the Asian-Am job. Can anyone confirm that they have actually contacted people for visits?
Re: Wisconsin-Madison: they work differently from other places, in that they call only one person for an interview, and decide whether or not to hire them, and then they call someone else if they decide if they don't want that person. So the fact that they made a offer doesn't mean there won't be more interviews
The UIC Asian American Studies job is an open search so it could be any discipline. The job closed on Dec. 1, so I don't think they would have any short lists yet unless they are moving really fast. For the person who is searching for jobs in AAS, there is a wiki for Ethnic Studies. Not much communication there, but the list is updated fairly regularly.
I don't think that it is sabotage necessarily but I'm pretty convinced that faculty members at a few schools are accessing this site and modifying information. In some case, I think that for whatever reason, they do not want certain info to be published, such as whether they have invited candidates for interviews. I had very reliable info about a school that I noticed was posted some time ago but that school has completely disappeared from the Wiki and the info is still accurate.
Well, in that case, I would suggest continuing to update the wiki AND mentioning those updates/information in the blog. We cannot stop someone from tryong to withhold information but that should not deter us from purusing the 'mission' of this whole project which, to my mind, is sharing useful, reliable and anonymous information about the academic job market in sociology.
I would call that sabotage myself. Schools don't want US to share information! I've certainly gotten some inquiries from faculty at my school about "What is this blog thing?" They know it somewhat alters their strategies. One solution would be to shift from the list format to the post format (harder to read but not as easily modifiable). Any other ideas?
I agree that we have to hold fast to our mission here. So as mentioned, maybe the best thing to do is to add info to this blog as it is posted on the WIKI and/or to stubbornly continue to repost the info on the WIKI when we see that it has disappeared.
I agree that we should continue to monitor and re-post wiki information that is mysteriously deleted, but ONLY if we have solid and reliable knowledge. The mission of democratizing the flow of information is important, but wouldn't want to second-guess whether the mystery deleters have better (or worse) quality information than those who originally posted. Maybe they just have poor social skills? :-)
Yes, I think if we have information that we post on Wiki and then it disappears we should simply repost. It's disturbing to to think that faculty might be deleting information.
I'm not sure I'd call the info here "reliable." It might be useful for some, but there are so many idiosyncrasies at these institutions that I would take everything here with a ton of salt. It is a rumor mill after all.
I'm also highly skeptical that faculty are changing posts for internal reasons. Lets not degenerate into "paranoia mill."
I agree with you that this is a 'rumor mill'. That is how one should approach the information contained in the wiki. That is how I am approaching it, anyway. However, this is not the same as saying that the information posted on the wiki and the blog should not be as reliable as possible. Otherwise, what would be the logic behind this experiment in information sharing?
I'm not going to add this to Wiki yet but I think there was an offer made for the urban job at U of Minn. and it have been accepted. This is of course word of mouth info.
This is just a rumor mill, although very reliable at times. So then why would anyone be deleting info from Wiki? It is not really that irrational to think that it might be someone who doesn't want the information up there. Why not simply correct it, instead of deleting?
I just added (again) a school, which has invited candidates for on-campus visits. I am watching to see if anyone will remove it (again). This is good information. Whoever is deleting the posts should stop. It's irritating a lot of us, especially me. Trust me: you don't want to come between me and reliable information.
Re: Wisconsin-Madison. I don't know about any offer having been made, but I know they're still actively recruiting for the open junior position because they've been in touch with me (quite recently - no interview yet, just asking for more materials, etc.)
Would the person who said they made an offer please share how reliable they believe that information to be?
On the subject of not hearing anything: Yes, this can mean there's still hope. I had written off a school because it's been almost 3 months since their application deadline, and I hadn't heard anything yet. However, my advisor found out last week that I'm on the second string of the short list (if the first 3 don't work out, I'll get interviewed). Yet I've still heard nothing directly from the school!
They're on the wiki as inviting interviews. I contacted the search committee over a week ago to confirm the status of the faculty search and have not heard anything back.
Anyone have any word from Montclair State University? I had a phone interview with them a couple of weeks before Thanksgiving and my hope is now fading...
Tenneessee-Knoxville (enviro) has a list of some kind. They are moving slow due to multiple simultaneous searches, and will likely invite candidates in Jan/Feb. 07.
Does the "short list waiting for approval" mean that people have been contacted to let them know they're on the short-list? Just checking... (and trying to see if I should cross them off my list)
Could someone please restore the wiki to the way it once was (full of information that didn't stop abruptly at the Cs)? Does anyone know why the wiki looks this way?
Salary differs quite a bit by school, location, etc. (I've heard anyway). A friend received between 55K and 60K (don't want to be more specific than that, just in case...), and my department in the top 20 pays better than that.
re salaries: also look at the chronicle of higher ed online which provides average salaries by rank for each university in the U.S. It won't give you a sociology average, but at least you'll know the average for assistants at the institutions you're interested in.
Someone added Arizona State to the Wiki. Does anyone have more specific information? There are at least four position at Arizona State: School of Justice and Social Inquiry (2) and School of Social and Family Dynamics (2).
Re: "Deadlines" People here continuously seem to be surprised when schools move shortly after their deadline. The thing is that very few people wait till the deadline to submit their materials. Add to that the very small worlds that some of these postings are in, and search committees frequently know who they are hoping to invite even before the (first) materials appear in their inbox.
And with ASU having such a late deadline, it wouldn't be out of the question that they would move right away. Word is that the committee has met twice already for the SSFD search (which closed the 15th like the other one).
ASU School of Justice and Social Inquiry posts their meeting minutes online (see their website: Resources). By late November they had received 30 applications for the Assistant Professor position. I'm sure they received more by December 15th, but I don't see any evidence that the search committee met to discuss the applicants before the deadline.
The SSFD job closed on Dec. 1 and the announcement noted that they will begin meeting "immediately" and will meet "weekly" until the position is filled. So, I'm not surprised that they've already met twice.
Warren Wilson College emailed candidates today who've made their "first cut." Candidates have been asked to write and send answers to 7 questions by mid-January if they're still interested in the position.
Barnard has three people scheduled to give talks the end of January. My condolences to the folks who were anxiously awaiting word - I know how it feels!
So Georgia (joint position with African American Studies) has been "rumored to have a short list" for quite some time. Does anyone know if they've invited folks out for interviews?
The Wiki indicates that Case Western has made an offer on one position but is still interviewing for the other. Is it the quant. position that has closed, or the life course/RGC position? Thanks!
Kudos to New Hampshire for a very nice rejection letter. They "have chosen to interview other candidates, whose particular research and teaching interests more squarely meet the department's current needs." Bravo!
Has anyone heard anything about the second position at North Carolina? It was joint with the Curriculum on Peace, War & Defense and closed the same date as the open position.
University of Western Ontario has established a short list and sent rejection letters. I'm glad they made sure to indicate that the majority of the applications were from Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents.
Lehman College is listed on the "schools rumored to have short-lists"... Anyone heard whether they've contacted the short-listed folks?
Just curious.
How's everyone holding up? This "holiday time" is a bit of a break from the anxiety of it all, yet it always seems to be in the back of my mind regardless... Here's wishing all of you a terrific New Year!
Indiana Bloomington lists their Global Health and Brazil searches as closed. Does anyone know the status of their Soc/Asian American search? Did they hire someone?
I received an email today from Fordham saying that I've made the short list and they'd like to do a phone interview next week. I was really surprised to receive such a note during a holiday week so I thought I'd post here to encourage others who applied to check their email.
Wisconsin-Madison is listed as having made an offer. I am a faculty member at Wisconsin and believe this to be erroneous. (I cannot otherwise comment on the status of searches.)
I also don't believe that Wisconsin has made an offer. They only got official permission to conduct the AP search about 2 weeks ago (of course, they had already solicited applications and all that stuff). I have it on good authority that they have a short list, though.
My impression is that the Toronto search for political/culture is actually for one position, not two. After talking with a member of the search committee at ASA, I took away that they would be most happy if they were to find someone who worked in both of those areas, rather than only political or culture.
I was wondering if anyone else was finding that schools have not been very responsive to email inquiries on the status of a search. I emailed a couple schools that had Oct/early Nov. deadlines (I figured by now I would at least see something on the wiki, but still, nothing) just to express my interest and ask if the search was still moving forward, but I haven't heard back and those emails were sent about a month ago (before schools would have been off on break) Anyone else finding schools being non-responsive to such questions, or is it just me? Is it pushy to email them again? I don't want to start annoying some search chair, but I would like to be able to take stock of which schools I still have a shot at and which ones I should cross off my list. ~Felix~
RE: Felix's question about emailing departments...
I'm a job market candidate, and my advisor's stance is not to contact them unless you have a useful piece of information to use as a fig leaf (ex: paper under review or conference submisison has been accepted, confirming receipt of all letters of rec., etc.), or unless thay've sent you an indication that you've made it through the initial screening process. I know there are lots of views on how contact from applicants is perceived by hiring committees (and those may merely reflect what the person holding those views would prefer).
Given my advisor's advice, I don't have an answer to your first question (about whether departments have been responsive to general status queries), but I've found them to be responsive to information updating my file.
Felix, I emailed all the schools on my list and heard back from 80%, mostly with bad news but it was still better than waiting anxiously. Some of them were actually really nice and encouraging.
I think you are right to be judicious in how many times you contact a dept. In one instance I got curious, and ended up calling a few times, and it ended up hurting me. I think an email, with a follow up phone call is sufficient. If you don't hear back after that, assume you are not wanted. The benefit is that you may end up being pleasantly surprised, while not having lost energy worrying about your status.
Out of curiosity, why do you think this sort of thing could hurt you? It seems to me that it could indicate enthusiasm about a department/position. What am i missing? Not trying to be contrary, genuinely perplexed.
Re: Toronto. The political/culture search was indeed for a single position, looking for someone who did either/or (ideally both). They had a another search for crime/law/deviance. Both searches were open rank and both offers went to senior people. However, neither offer has been accepted yet.
A theory position at CSU-Northridge is listed in the ASA Job Bank as being reopened. Is this the same or different position from the one at CSUN described in a 12/22 post here as being offered and accepted?
Cal State Northridge had an offer accepted for the quantitative methods position, but they decided not to make an offer for the theory position. So the re-opened theory search makes sense.
I can't think of any reason why information about post-docs and visiting positions should not be listed here and on the wiki. Please post if you have information!
Depends on the place and type of school. At research schools (R1s), you may get a 2-2 or even less, and course release/buyouts when you get grants is common. I know someone who was offered 1-1 for the first two years! At teaching colleges, it may be 4-4. I think one of the things that's important is, if it's a heavy teaching load, to have more than one section of the same course to reduce preps per semester, and if possible to repeat courses from semester to semester or year to year. You should also think about class sizes and if there are TAs, graders, etc, because 4 large classes a semester with no TAs is very different than 4 very small classes a semester.
Re: Toronto. Unlike what was said on the blog I heard the position at Toronto didn't go to a senior but to a junior who works in culture. Is that true? Nest, Bibi
Has anyone heard anything further from Marquette? I was one of the many sent the "we're still interested in you" e-mail in December. Well, today is the "last" day of "mid" January and I haven't heard anything, so I'm wondering if any of the others who were "still being considered" have heard.
Teaching loads vary widely. I've heard everything from the standard 2-2 at a research univeristy 2-1-3 (elite liberal arts), 4-4 (state university), 3-2 and 3-3 (selective, though not elite, liberal arts).

Why is Bard off the wiki? Are you playing with me? :)

Yes, Memphis has offered the job. I received this info from the chair. I don't know if it has been accepted.

The chair of Fordham says they won't start reviewing apps until January. They received 85 apps.

Any word on the status of the search at Arizona State University?
Does anyone have information regarding the Salem State search?
anything on U of the Pacific?
Re: Salem State
Just received a letter today that they have lost funding for the position--no hire this year.
anybody knows what happened with american? it came in and out of the wiki list in recent days. somebody was also telling that they were calling people for interviews.

Thanks for the info. I just received my letter. Oh, well, another one to cross off.

I hate how vague this entire process is.
RE: U of I @ Chicago search
They've already invited first round of candidates.
University of San Francisco was listed earlier as having invited candidates for interviews. Now they are no longer on that list. Does anyone know if the original information was incorrect or if it was deleted for some other reason?
Does anyone know whether UIChicago contacted LSL or short listed folks? Or have they only contacted interviewees? Thanks!
Which position is UI-Chicago contacting candidates about? The Asian American Studies position or another one?
I wonder who keeps deleting schools from the wiki.
I know that UIC has two job openings in soc. Have they invited people in for both? I know I have received a rejection letter yet
Me too! It would be very helpful if the person(s) deleting information also shared their rationale for doing so. pretty weird about stuff disappearing from the list. I wonder if it's an attempt to sabotage our information sharing...

re: University of San Francisco
They have a short list, and will soon be inviting candidates.
Re: Florida Southern
Is that USF (U of South Florida?) or another one? I was invited to USF, and they have not called me to cancel the interview.
I know that U of Illinois at Chicago has a short list (that they have contacted) for the urban/orgs job. I don't know anything about the Asian-Am job. Can anyone confirm that they have actually contacted people for visits?

Worcester State has a long short list. I know because I am not on it.
I heard rumors that Stony Brook made an offer.
Any news on South Dakota? They called me 2 months ago that they are interested but nothing since then.
Oh, so sad about Worcester State! :( (Well, happy for those who got on the long-short list, I'm sure...)
Okay, gonna keep my chin up. Thanks for posting the info.

Cornell (ILR) has made an offer.
American & Indiana UP
Has anyone heard anything? The silence makes me suspicious that they may have lost funding for the position.
Indiana U of PA began conducting phone interviews last week
American is now interviewing candidates
has anyone heard anything from Kansas State?
Does anyone have any details on Ithaca?
They're on the wiki as inviting interviews. I contacted the search committee over a week ago to confirm the status of the faculty search and have not heard anything back.
Barnard disappeared from the list awhile ago now. Has anyone heard if they have started interviewing (or done anything, for that matter)?
I heard that Barnard was going to invite people in January. It sounded like they already contacted those people.
Re: Ithaca
When I got in touch with them at the beginning of this month, they hadn't yet made an offer. Don't know what's happened since.
Anyone heard anything abou Georgia State?
How many of you were shortlisted at Ithaca? I was. . .
Georgia State has already invited out candidates for interviews.
Did Loyola Marymount invite candidates yet?
Any word on Illinois@Chicago? Did they contact their short-listed people and/or start interviewing yet?
I heard Kansas State is getting the short list together and will invite people mid to late Jan. for interviews
Has Texas San Antonio actually contacted anyone?
McGill has selected a candidate and sent rejection emails today stating that the search is closed.
I know for sure that Ithaca started interviewing early in the month.
Does anybody know what's going on at York and Newfoundland (Canada)?
Anyone have any word from Montclair State University? I had a phone interview with them a couple of weeks before Thanksgiving and my hope is now fading...
any news about Bloomington?
Loyola Marymout has a faculty meeting today (12/15). Maybe a short-list, but hasn't invited anyone yet.

Salary differs quite a bit by school, location, etc. (I've heard anyway). A friend received between 55K and 60K (don't want to be more specific than that, just in case...), and my department in the top 20 pays better than that.
Loyola Marymount has called candidates to schedule interviews.
re: Montclair
That I don't know. Sorry.
The top offer on the market last year was $82K at an R1.
I concur that 55-60K is pretty par for the course, with more possible at private R1s or if you have multiple offers.
Some Urban Studies job info (there seem to be several urbanists out there):
SF State: interviewing
Occidental: sent rejections (received last week)
Any info on Cleveland State, Wayne State, or Texas?
82K -- wow, where was that?
You can find salary estimates at
http://chronicle.com/stats/aaup/
The Chronicle figures aren't specific to sociology, but provide a good general picture.
Illinois Chicago is interviewing. U of Minn. has an offer accepted.
re: salaries
ASA posts salary data also:
http://www.asanet.org/page.ww?name=Sociology+Faculty+Salaries+2005%2F2006§ion=Profession+Trend+Data
The link posted above for ASA doesn't work but type the following in Google and the page will be the first link to pop up:
american sociology association sociology faculty salaries
re salaries: also look at the chronicle of higher ed online which provides average salaries by rank for each university in the U.S. It won't give you a sociology average, but at least you'll know the average for assistants at the institutions you're interested in.
Wayne State has interviewed all three of their top candidates. A decision is pending.
Someone added Arizona State to the Wiki. Does anyone have more specific information? There are at least four position at Arizona State: School of Justice and Social Inquiry (2) and School of Social and Family Dynamics (2).

The SSFD job closed on Dec. 1 and the announcement noted that they will begin meeting "immediately" and will meet "weekly" until the position is filled. So, I'm not surprised that they've already met twice.
I just noticed Northern Illinois on the wiki - anyone know which position that's in reference to? Or is it for both?
thanks!
I know that Northern Ill. has interviewed for a Criminology position, but am not sure about any others.
Northern Illinois has extended an offer for the crim position and invited candidates in for the other positions.
Bowdoin is not hiring anyone from the finalists they invited for on-campus interviews.
Indiana U of PA is now contacting candidates for on-campus interviews
Anyone heard anything about Houston?
Does anyone know if the statement above about Bowdoin means they aren't hiring at all this year, or if they might do more interviews? Thanks!
I think Bowdoin will not be going back to their applicant pool and thus the search is failed until next year.
Warren Wilson College emailed candidates today who've made their "first cut." Candidates have been asked to write and send answers to 7 questions by mid-January if they're still interested in the position.
RE: Tennessee Crim, the position has been offered.
Barnard has three people scheduled to give talks the end of January. My condolences to the folks who were anxiously awaiting word - I know how it feels!

Does somebody know something about Yeshiva?
So Georgia (joint position with African American Studies) has been "rumored to have a short list" for quite some time. Does anyone know if they've invited folks out for interviews?
The Wiki indicates that Case Western has made an offer on one position but is still interviewing for the other. Is it the quant. position that has closed, or the life course/RGC position? Thanks!
Re: Case Western
My understanding is that they are trying to get candidates that do all three--quant, life course and RCG
Kudos to New Hampshire for a very nice rejection letter. They "have chosen to interview other candidates, whose particular research and teaching interests more squarely meet the department's current needs." Bravo!
To the person who asked, Georgia made in offer to someone in my department. I don't know if they have accepted it or not.
Anyone know why U of Puget Sound was removed from the Wiki list?
the cornell college job was offered and accepted
the Cal State Northridge job was offered and accepted
John Jay College is now extending offers
Please continue to update the wiki with info about acceptances.
Thanks!
UMass race/immigration job has been offered and accepted
Has anyone heard anything about the second position at North Carolina? It was joint with the Curriculum on Peace, War & Defense and closed the same date as the open position.
It seems Fordham has a short list.
Does anyone know what's going on with the economic soc position at Wisconsin-Madison?
I've heard second-hand that Wisconsin was asking for more materials last week.
Would the person who has left the Wiki on edit for the last few hours please un-suspend the page? I'd like to update the wiki.
It seems that the U of Toledo hired someone.
Got my Loyola Marymount rejection letter today, dated 12/19. I appreciate that they actually sent one out. Very few others seem to do this.
Here's wishing all of you a terrific New Year!

does anyone know if fordham contacted the people on their short list?
Indiana Bloomington lists their Global Health and Brazil searches as closed. Does anyone know the status of their Soc/Asian American search? Did they hire someone?
U Chicago has invited three candidates in for the associate search.
I'm fairly certain that the IU SOC/Asian American Studies offer's been made (and accepted). I'm sorry.
got a rejection letter from Worcester State today.
U of the Pacific has a short list and did phone interviews a couple weeks ago. They'll invite candidates in January.
I also don't believe that Wisconsin has made an offer. They only got official permission to conduct the AP search about 2 weeks ago (of course, they had already solicited applications and all that stuff). I have it on good authority that they have a short list, though.
Received a rejection letter from Penn today, dated December 13.
Received an email rejection from the New School yesterday (January 2, 2007).
I received emails today saying that Houston's search is completed, and Tennessee-Chattanooga will have a short list in the next few weeks.
U of Oklahoma is interviewing candidates.
Re the Wisconsin short list: is that for the open search? have they invited job candidates yet?
The offer Toronto made. Was it for the political or for the culture position?
thanks,
bibi
Does anyone know anything about the status of the second UNC search? It closed Nov. 15 so I'd think they'd have a short list by now.
South Dakota cancelled its search. Got a two-liner email from their HR.
My impression is that the Toronto search for political/culture is actually for one position, not two. After talking with a member of the search committee at ASA, I took away that they would be most happy if they were to find someone who worked in both of those areas, rather than only political or culture.
I also applied for the Peace, War, and Defense job at UNC and haven't heard anything.

Good luck!
Felix, I emailed all the schools on my list and heard back from 80%, mostly with bad news but it was still better than waiting anxiously. Some of them were actually really nice and encouraging.
Felix
I see that Brown is now on the interviewing list. Does anyone know if that's for the IR/Watson position or the urban studies position? thanks!
Virginia Commonwealth info anyone?
wisconsin invited people? is this reliable?
Anybody know how many people are interviewing at ASU?
North Florida is listed on the wiki as having made an offer, but they are still contacting candidates.
I'm not sure which position the "Brown" on the wiki signifies, but urban studies/am civ has invited interviewees.
Re: North Florida
North Florida is still contacting candidates? For interviews? Or for more info?
A theory position at CSU-Northridge is listed in the ASA Job Bank as being reopened. Is this the same or different position from the one at CSUN described in a 12/22 post here as being offered and accepted?
Re: North Florida
For interviews.
Cal State Northridge had an offer accepted for the quantitative methods position, but they decided not to make an offer for the theory position. So the re-opened theory search makes sense.
Arizona has made two offers, I'm hearing that they have both been accepted.
Marymount Manhattan College has made an offer and it's been accepted.
Does anyone know what's going on with Queens College - CUNY?
are we supposed to be posting stuff about postdocs (shortlists, interviews, hires) on the wiki as well?
I can't think of any reason why information about post-docs and visiting positions should not be listed here and on the wiki. Please post if you have information!
Lehman has scheduled phone interviews
Any news on Texas San Antonio? The silence makes me wonder if the search is till on.
San Diego State is now inviting candidates for campus interviews in Feb
Has anyone heard anything about the Northern Arizona search. Also, is there a job blog for just criminla justice jobs?
Does anyone know much about the position in Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Guelph?
RE: NAU. If you are inquiring about the CJ position, it has been filled.
Michigan State has a short list for the quantitative methods position
kansas state has a shortlist...don't know how short...created before the holidays, but not sure where things are now
Bates college has at least a long short list, perhaps more
What is the most common teaching load?
Regarding teaching load:

Kansas state was contacting people over the weekend
Re: Toronto.
Unlike what was said on the blog I heard the position at Toronto didn't go to a senior but to a junior who works in culture. Is that true?
Nest,
Bibi
Wesleyan U (CT) has made an offer
Re: LSU (full Soc) acceptance. Does anyone know if they hired a junior or senior person?
LSU-if it's the position you mean is the full soc.- it's senior.
Re: LSU full Soc (Sr)-thanks for the update. I really appreciate the information.
Has anyone heard anything further from Marquette? I was one of the many sent the "we're still interested in you" e-mail in December. Well, today is the "last" day of "mid" January and I haven't heard anything, so I'm wondering if any of the others who were "still being considered" have heard.
Regarding teaching loads:
My guess is outside of research universities the most common load is a 2:3.
Teaching loads vary widely. I've heard everything from the standard 2-2 at a research univeristy 2-1-3 (elite liberal arts), 4-4 (state university), 3-2 and 3-3 (selective, though not elite, liberal arts).
Anyone heard anything from Mills College?
Re: teaching load. Thanks!
I was shocked that all the places interviewing/phone interviewing me have 4x4 teaching loads.
I wonder if in such jobs you have to give up serious research for good.
Is it true that if you start your career at a non-R1 school, you never have the chance to climb up the ladder and land a R1 position?
Marx, who have not heard from Marquette
