I just thought I'd share this because I think there are a few other folks on this blog who applied for women/gender studies jobs as well, and the wiki for that job market is finally showing some new info about where various schools are in the search process: http://wikihost.org/wikis/academe/wiki/women_s_studies_area_studies
So now you can obsessively check two lists :) ~Felix~
darn, the full link got cut off it's the same as the soc wiki but with /women_s_studies_area_studies at the end instead of sociology. sorry about that- ~Felix~
The rejection letter I said I received from Connecticut College was actually U Conn. Sorry for the error and thanks for making me double check my letter!
women/gender jobs: I'll try posting it again, but with the posting being cut off I'll try putting it on several lines you can cut-and-paste together into your browswer:
Anyone have any news on Texas A&M? i know their committee was meeting a couple of weeks ago, but haven't heard rumblings of them contacting anyone thus far.
About a week and a half ago I received an email from Bard College. This was before their 11/17 deadline. They were looking for my letters of rec (which had been misfiled). They said they wanted to "move on my application." I felt hopeful at the time, but now that it has been so long I'm assuming the news isn't good. Has anyone else heard anything from Bard?
I just received an email from Community/Urban listserve re-announcing Brown's Urban Studies position with a NEW December 20th deadline. It seemed as though they were going to move fast on this position. I am not sure what this means.
I'm not sure if the Brown urban/am civ position on the CUSS listserv was the same as the one that had a Nov 15 deadline. The first one did not say it was joint with any specific department, and it did not specify that the applicant had do work on an ethnic/racial minority group. So I think they are two separate positions. Anyone else have any thoughts/news?
Anyone heard anything from Bowdoin or Barnard? (Echoing the person above who was curious if those schools have moved from being on the "short list" list to the "invited" list...)
I am fairly certain the Brown urban studies (built environment)position is the same one. I applied for the Nov. 15th deadline and the forwarded announcement with the Dec. 20th deadline has virtually the same wording.
I don't think they are the same position, although it's entirely possible that the first position became this new one due to funding reasons.
I just pulled out my file of printed out postings from the ASA bulletin, and in that posting there's no mention of them seeking someone who "specializes in studying the impact of recent immigrants and ethnic groups on American urban life. Possible topics include the interactions between immigrants/ethnic groups and neighborhood development, economic enclaves, urban culture, local politics, or other groups living in cities, including native majorities and minorities. Preference is for scholars trained in urban theory with an interdisciplinary perspective on Urban Studies. A research focus on urban Latinos, or other ethnic minority groups is required." (I pulled that from the new posting off the Brown urban studies website.)
The original posting wanted someone who "focuses on urban space and the urban built environment" and the list of areas did not include much of what I just pasted in above.
Thank you for sharing the Brown posting, but that is for a second position. I received an email today from the community/urban listserve extending the original built environment search (Dec. 20th) which was taken down from the Brown webiste after the Nov. 15th deadline. I double checked the original posting with the Nov. 15th deadline position and today's email and they are the same.
Ah! Thanks for clarifying, and sorry for taking up so much blog space with the previous posting.
And I guess that doesn't bode well for those of us who got our materials in for the Nov. 15th deadline... extending the deadline until the 20th sounds like they didn't like what the got the first go around. Oh well - just one more to add to the pile of jobs not gotten! ;)
Helena, you can look for Women's Studies jobs in the Chronicle and online at nwsa.org (click employment and look under Women's Studies and Joint Appointments). The NWSA listings are clunky and not neatly separated like those at the Chronicle, but it's worth scrolling through. If you do transnational work on feminist issues, you'll definitely be a hot commmodity with a lot of the WS jobs. I got off track. Sorry.
Helena, the Chronicle is a good site (and I agree with Trixie that the NWSA job listing is cumbersome) I also like Higheredjobs.com, and UMass has a nice listing on their page http://www.umass.edu/wost/ opportunities.htm Hope that's helpful :) ~Felix~
Brown listed two different positions in their urban studies department: 1) focusing on policy as related to the built envrionment (original deadline Nov. 15 extened to Dec. 20) and 2) an American Civ position focusing the impact of recent immigration on U.S. urban life. They are two separate positions.
Neither the Soc nor the Women's Studies wiki has updates for several Soc/WS joint positions. Does anyone have suggestions about which wiki is appropriate for this info? Should "we" update both with this information?
Felix and Trixie--thanks! I checked the Chronicle and also h-net, I may not be such a hot commodity for the NWSA-listed jobs, so will hold off from that for a while.
I posted a few updates on the WS wiki so I would say share whatever you've heard, Trixie (and anyone else with info) and if it's a soc/ws dual position it would seem appropriate to post on both wikis. ~Felix~
Re: Soc/WS positions--Helena, I've been updating the WMST wiki related to WMST-only positions. WMST programs seem to be moving more slowly than many Soc positions. I just added a few details to the Soc wiki about Soc/WS jobs.
Re: Texas A&M (Soc/WMST)--the joint Soc/Women's studies search committee has invited candidates. I know nothing about the other generalist(?) searches.
Pepperdine re-posted the exact same ad with a December 1st deadline (original deadline was September 1st), so I can only imagine that their original applicant pool was small. Not sure what that means for those of us who sent materials ages ago.
Got the UMASS email rejection, too. 380 applicants, oof. But because of the blog and wiki list, I already knew they had interviewed and the rejection wasn't a big deal! SO thanks everyone for the info and support!
Apparently, I don't even exist. I'm looking at the list of places that are currently interviewing and the places that have sent rejection letters or e-mails. I've heard ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. No call, no rejection letters, no rejection e-mails. I just feel invisible.
Last year all my colleagues got rejection letters for a particular school and I didn't. I figured it was a glitch in the mail. It turns out it was no accident. A few weeks later, I got an email from that school asking if I was still on the market. I didn't get a letter because I wasn't someone they wanted to outright reject, but I also hadn't made their first round of interviews. So don't despair. No news can be a good thing.
Bowdoin: can someone confirm that they indeed have begun interviewing?
Colby: anyone? anything?
U. British Columbia? same?
Texas Austin: someone posted that they hired in Oct, but I received a letter back then that said funding for the position wasn't available and to try again next year.
And for the person who hadn't heard anything... have you checked with your dept. mailbox? Although I use my home address for correspondence, most schools, it seems, prefer to mail my EEOC and rejections there. Which is convenient, really, because by the time I realized this I could get both letters in one shot and save myself the time of filling them out :-)

When I'm sending off my application to Tropical Beachfront U., I always assume that everyone else will be going for that same job. It's good to be reminded from time to time that everyone has different tastes, preferences, and dreams. I hope you're cross-country skiing to class in 2007-8 (brrr), and that it's everything you imagine!

"Texas Austin: someone posted that they hired in Oct, but I received a letter back then that said funding for the position wasn't available and to try again next year."
The Austin job that didn't get funding and the one that was offered are two different positions. The non-funded was a qualitative job. The "internal hire" was a targeted/invited search on a particular topic (from the way I understand it).
I got an email confirmation back in September that they received my application, but otherwise I haven't heard anything. I'm really, really curious myself, so do keep us posted if you hear anything...
Oh, and Wesleyan had a similarly early deadline -- they're not on the list yet, but I wonder if anyone has any info?
I noticed Oklahoma State now has a short list...can anyone tell me more info (notifying by email, rejections, etc)?
Also, along with OSU, several other places I applied to are just now showing up on the "short list"--do you think these depts will wait until Jan. for interviews?
Does antone know whether UNC has contacted folks on thier long short list yet? And which position is that? They have one that's an open position and one that is joint with the curriculum on peace, war & defense.
I just noticed on the wiki that SUNY-Geneseo has a short list. Have any of you been told that you're on the list? I received a request for additional materials, but that is all they said. I didn't assume anything more than that. Thanks.
DePaul is on the interviewing list with a note that they sent rejection letters. Has anyone been invited to interview? I haven't gotten a rejection letter yet, so was grasping for some hope here...
When will I learn not to ask questions I'm not prepared to have answered? That casts a pall over the whole day. Thank you for looking into it. I'm surprised they sent names.
Congrats to whomever received the offer from UCSD (I noticed it on the Wiki)! Anonymously speaking, I'm wondering if SD is your "dream job" or whether instead there are other contending offers that might be more appealing for you?
Re: UNC-Chapel Hill To the person who heard there's a short-list this morning - is that an update from the LSL folks who were contacted about 3 weeks ago? Or is this just rejection letters to those who weren't among that bunch?
Someone posted info on a 2-year lecture position at Northwestern. I haven't seen this ad in the Chronicle or the ASA Job Bank. Does anyone know where this position is/was advertised?
I posted it after receiving an email from a friend in my program who's friends with someone who works at Northwestern. The email I received is the only info I have on it, but the original sending email address was Mary Patillo-McCoy's, so I think you could try emailing her with questions about it. Best of luck!
Wisconsin has an econ soc search and an open search. No idea about the former, but they're just asking for more info from people for the latter, so it sounds like they're not interviewing yet.
I have no idea who the UCSD offer went to, but presumably they can't post about whether it's their preferred job because anyone from UCSD would know who that person is even though the rest of us don't...
Is this the same position as the Long Island one on the wiki? I'd love to know as well. CW Post never confirmed they received my app. Has anyone had the same experience?
Yeah, I asked about that when the LIU stuff was posted but didn't get an answer. I applied to CW Post but wasn't sure if there was another LIU position - seemed fast for Post. I haven't heard that they received my app either.
Is it possible to name names here favorably? I just want to award an honorable mention to the search committee head at University of San Francisco who is decent and kind in his correspondence, even with unsuccessful candidates. Bravo, S.Z.!
Did we ever decide what would happen when people got jobs? Can those names be named since they'll come out eventually? I'd love to hear who got the Davis Social Psych job, if they're willing to share.
As far as I know, CW Post and LIU are the same job ad. CW Post is one of Long Island University's campuses, and they're the ones who are hiring and who were interviewing candidates at the ASA employment service. FYI, at that time (4 months ago now!) they told me to send in my stuff ASAP. I sent it all in in early September and never heard a word.
Similarly, Marymount Manhattan College (MMC) is notoriously slow.... always, with everything. Their deadline was in August! And I heard from inside sources a while ago that they hadn't even planned when they would meet.... though that was about a month ago and they could have gotten their act together by now.... but I also have heard nothing from them, and if I'll be rejected I expect a personal rejection due to social connections.
I just thought it worthwhile to mention that, while I have found the blogs and the wiki an interesting resource, they should be taken with a grain of salt. I've now (twice) been contacted by places that have LONG been listed as having invited candidates for interviews. Wait till the rejection letter comes to presume you are completely out of the running somewhere.
to echo the fact that some places listed on the wiki are still contacting folks, so don't count yourself out yet - I was just contacted by Marquette and they are just starting to review applications for the second of three positions, so while it sounds like one search is over/candidates have been interviewed, they are just getting started on the other two, even though they've been up on the wiki quite awhile now. So a ray of sunshine in my day, and hopefully some hope for others as well :) ~Felix~
I see on the wiki that Marquette is scheduling phone interviews. The letter I got from them only said they are still interested but no mention of a phone interview. What does that mean?
Sorry about the Marquette mix-up. They are not in the process of conducting interviews but in the process of reviewing applications for the second (and third) positions(s). I will update the wiki as soon as it gets off edit mode. (Will the person who has edited the wiki last save the page so that it gets off edit mode?)
I want to chime in along the lines of yesterday's honorable mention of the search committee chair at USF. I received the kindest rejection letter (visiting position) last year from Juliet Schor at Boston College. It was very much appreciated, and left me with a positive impression of the department.
As long as we're nominating letters for the Hall of Fame, Christine Williams' letter that the social theory position at UT Austin wasn't on for this year was very timely and kindly worded.
It left me with a positive impression that has remained despite two months of monotonous, bi-weekly boilerplate rejections since then...
I'll add UNC-Charlotte and their chair, Charlie Brody, to the list. Their rejection letter was kind and classy, and Charlie even wrote some words of encouragement on the side.
I got the email from Marquette, so that makes 10. I wonder whether it's a long short list or whether they actually emailed half their applicants. How many others got this email?
As I read the Marquette email, it just seemed like an acknowledgement that they haven't moved as quickly as planned, and wanted to be sure that any people they might consider haven't already taken jobs elsewhere. Didn't sound like an offer/interview offer/etc. to me. Don't think they did anything weird if they did send it to half their list. FWIW
I'll echo the above sentiment. I was number 6 (on this list) and I'm pretty sure that everyone they thought was "ok" got the e-mail. I am a bit surprised that someone I know didn't get the e-mail. This person is stellar so I really don't know what constitutes "ok." I think for me, getting the e-mail just tells me that it's a crapshoot. George
The UMass search has made offers for some positions, which are pending. No offer has been made for the criminology position, and it is unclear whether an offer will be made on the basis of current candidates, or bring in more interviewees, or just wait until next year.
This morning Barnard was on the "invited candidates" list, and now (about five hours later) it appears to be off the list entirely. Does anyone know if they have invited candidates or when they plan to do so? Thanks.
My condolences, 11:11. I've had a wave of rejections this week, so I sympathize. We'll eventually find the right fit, even if it doesn't happen this year...
Btw, has anyone heard about Hofstra? I haven't heard a thing from the dept., haven't seen it discussed on the blog, and it's not on the wiki. Anyone know the scoop?
Does anyone have info on the U of Illinois at Chicago search? I know they have a short list, but don't know if they have actually invited candidates yet or not...Help!

Cleveland State is interviewing candidates.
Anyone know what's going on with the New School search?
Connecticut College sent out rejection letters that were received yesterday.
Chapel Hill has long short list
anybody know about the timeline at Wisconsin?
Things have been pretty slow recently. What happened?
My guess is, it has something to do with the holiday.
Chapel Hill has sent emails to candidates on the long short list.
Any news on TAMU, Kentucky, Lehigh, GSU?
I've been waiting forever to hear from LIU too. It's one of a few that seem to be taking their time...
Claude
This is crazy. Chapel Hill's deadline was the 15th. It took them 5-6 days to make a short list. I am shattered.
LIU has interviewed candiates.
Anyone have info on Virginia Commonwealth?
Georgia State has a short list.
Is LIU the same search as LIU: CW Post? Or are you folks referring to a different position?
Also - Is it Connecticut College that sent out rejections, or UConn or another Conn school? Or both? CC had an 11/15 deadline.
Thank you.
U of Connecticut at Storrs sent the rejection letters, not Connecticut College
Thanks for clearing it up - I'll change it on the wiki, then.
re: VCU
I received the acknowledgement letter dated 11/13. They have two lines open, so that may slow down the process.
I just thought I'd share this because I think there are a few other folks on this blog who applied for women/gender studies jobs as well, and the wiki for that job market is finally showing some new info about where various schools are in the search process:

Anyone heard on the Brown U urban studies/soc position?
darn, the full link got cut off
it's the same as the soc wiki but with
/women_s_studies_area_studies
at the end instead of sociology.
sorry about that-

Re: women's studies/gender studies positions
I am excited to hear about such a site, but I tried it and and the link seems broken. are you sure this is the exact URL?
thanks for posting this.
The rejection letter I said I received from Connecticut College was actually U Conn. Sorry for the error and thanks for making me double check my letter!

alternatively you can go to the main academic page (the first part of the address including the "academe") and click women and area studies.

thank you. ;)
Anybody heard from North Florida?
Colgate has been calling candidates invitig them to give talks.
Louisiana State invited a candidate for each of its searches.
I haven't heard anything about the Brown urban position, but apps weren't due until 11/15, right?
Any word on Hofstra Soc or Minnesota Urban (both ~11/1)?
Anyone have any news on Texas A&M? i know their committee was meeting a couple of weeks ago, but haven't heard rumblings of them contacting anyone thus far.
Texas A&M is hiring? (News to me.) Is it a specialist search?
Texas A&M - open search. Was posted in the job bulletin in late July. Had a Nov 1 deadline.
The news has really slowed down of late. Maybe schools are slowing down with the end of the semester nigh and/or just beginning to extend offers?
About a week and a half ago I received an email from Bard College. This was before their 11/17 deadline. They were looking for my letters of rec (which had been misfiled). South Florida has invited candidates.
The women's studies blog is helpful - there is also one for public policy that might be of interest to some sociologists
Where is the Women's Studies blog? I've only seen the wiki, which doesn't contain a URL for the blog. I'd appreciate your help!
I just received an email from Community/Urban listserve re-announcing Brown's Urban Studies position with a NEW December 20th deadline. It seemed as though they were going to move fast on this position. I am not sure what this means.
clemson has sent rejections.

somebody listed Lehigh on the wiki list. anybody has more information? when did they contact candidates?
Some places with earlier deadlines that I am surprised aren't on the wiki: Pacific Lutheran, Ithaca College, Worcester State, North Florida.
Has anyone heard anything more about Bowdoin? On the old blog, someone mentioned that Bowdoin asked for more materials.
Thanks! :)
I am fairly certain the Brown urban studies (built environment)position is the same one. I applied for the Nov. 15th deadline and the forwarded announcement with the Dec. 20th deadline has virtually the same wording.
Re: Brown Urban position
Any news on the Brown orgs position?
Thank you for sharing the Brown posting, but that is for a second position. I received an email today from the community/urban listserve extending the original built environment search (Dec. 20th) which was taken down from the Brown webiste after the Nov. 15th deadline. I double checked the original posting with the Nov. 15th deadline position and today's email and they are the same.
Re: Brown
Ah! Thanks for clarifying, and sorry for taking up so much blog space with the previous posting.
And I guess that doesn't bode well for those of us who got our materials in for the Nov. 15th deadline... extending the deadline until the 20th sounds like they didn't like what the got the first go around. Oh well - just one more to add to the pile of jobs not gotten! ;)

RE: Brown
Brown listed two different positions in their urban studies department: 1) focusing on policy as related to the built envrionment (original deadline Nov. 15 extened to Dec. 20) and 2) an American Civ position focusing the impact of recent immigration on U.S. urban life. They are two separate positions.
Neither the Soc nor the Women's Studies wiki has updates for several Soc/WS joint positions. Does anyone have suggestions about which wiki is appropriate for this info? Should "we" update both with this information?

Did Eastern Connecticut (on the wiki today) call or email?
Thank you!
Wiki list says that Univ. of San Francisco has a short list. Did they contact the people on the short list?
Re: Eastern Connecticut State University
They emailed on Monday 11/27 to set up on-campus visits for mid-December.

Eve,
did you see the ad about the temporary lecturer position at Northwestern? it's pasted in the link about postdocs and positions on socrumormill.
Yes, I did see the Northwestern position you listed; thanks for specifically bringing it to my attention.
Eve
Univ of SF emailed short-list candidates.
What is happening with the Marymount Manhattan and Pepperdine positions? They had very early deadlines.

Pepperdine re-posted the exact same ad with a December 1st deadline (original deadline was September 1st), so I can only imagine that their original applicant pool was small. Not sure what that means for those of us who sent materials ages ago.

Nobody knows anything about U of the Pacific???
I think that Indiana made an offer on that position and are waiting to hear back from the candidate. My information could be wrong or old, though.
Barnard is going to be interviewing the beginning of the year. Don’t know if that means they have a short list yet.
Marymount Manhattan is just starting to contact people this week.
Got two rejection emails: one from UC-denvor and the other from UMASS. What a day!

Southern Indiana is inviting candidates for interviews.

Wesleyan is interviewing candidates.
Does anyone have info on the Virginia Commonwealth Crim or Medical Sociology position?
I noticed Oklahoma State now has a short list...can anyone tell me more info (notifying by email, rejections, etc)?
Also, along with OSU, several other places I applied to are just now showing up on the "short list"--do you think these depts will wait until Jan. for interviews?
I noticed that the New School is now listed on the wiki as having invited candidates. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks.
did virginia tech contact people on its long short list?
re: Oklahoma State. Applicants that made the short list were notified by email last week.
Does antone know whether UNC has contacted folks on thier long short list yet? And which position is that? They have one that's an open position and one that is joint with the curriculum on peace, war & defense.
Yes, for the Open position UNC contacted those on the LSL via email.
re: Hawaii crim/law
I heard that Hawaii is in the process of scheduling up video-conference interviews.
Thanks for the clarification on the UNC open position. So is there any news on the joint War, Peace & Defense job at UNC?
I just noticed on the wiki that SUNY-Geneseo has a short list. Have any of you been told that you're on the list? I received a request for additional materials, but that is all they said. I didn't assume anything more than that. Thanks.
RE: THE NEW SCHOOL. I emailed tham and they send me a list with the 6 people giving job talks. They started last friday.
sorry
bst,
ZEKE
re: SUNY Geneseo
Geneseo has long-short list of 10.
If you got a request for additional information in the past week, you're probably on it.
DePaul is on the interviewing list with a note that they sent rejection letters. Has anyone been invited to interview? I haven't gotten a rejection letter yet, so was grasping for some hope here...
I heard from an administrator at UNC-Chapel Hill that they have a shortlist and expect to send rejection letters this week.
Zeke:
re: The New School
When will I learn not to ask questions I'm not prepared to have answered? That casts a pall over the whole day. Thank you for looking into it. I'm surprised they sent names.
I got the rejection letter from Brown organizational search in mail this morning.
Congrats to whomever received the offer from UCSD (I noticed it on the Wiki)! Anonymously speaking, I'm wondering if SD is your "dream job" or whether instead there are other contending offers that might be more appealing for you?
Re: UNC-Chapel Hill
To the person who heard there's a short-list this morning - is that an update from the LSL folks who were contacted about 3 weeks ago? Or is this just rejection letters to those who weren't among that bunch?
thanks!
Re: DePaul
DePaul has already interviewed three candidates.
Someone posted info on a 2-year lecture position at Northwestern. I haven't seen this ad in the Chronicle or the ASA Job Bank. Does anyone know where this position is/was advertised?
re: Northwestern lectureship
I posted it after receiving an email from a friend in my program who's friends with someone who works at Northwestern. The email I received is the only info I have on it, but the original sending email address was Mary Patillo-McCoy's, so I think you could try emailing her with questions about it. Best of luck!
RE: Northwestern
I just received an "official" notice of the position via the community/urban listserve.
Re: Northwestern
Thanks for the info! Much appreciated.
Any news about Pacific Lutheran or Ithaca? It's been a LONG time they've had those applications...
Anyone out there heard anything from:
* American University
* Cal Poly Pomona
* Pitzer
* Worcester State
Their deadlines passed a while ago now...

Anyone know if Wisconsin or NC-Chapel Hill are interviewing yet? Or any idea when these interviews might happen?
It seems like Western Illinois has been on the wiki for a long time. Does anyone know what's happening with them?
Wisconsin has an econ soc search and an open search. No idea about the former, but they're just asking for more info from people for the latter, so it sounds like they're not interviewing yet.
I have no idea who the UCSD offer went to, but presumably they can't post about whether it's their preferred job because anyone from UCSD would know who that person is even though the rest of us don't...
Has anyone heard anything sbout the status of the Loyola Marymount search?
re: Loyola Marymount
The deadline was Dec. 1 so I think it's still too early for anything to be going on there.
I thought Pomona and Pitzer were already interviewing or have shortlisted candidates.
Thanks for the Hawaii update.
UNC-Chapel Hill is not interviewing yet.
I'm wondering about American U as well...??
RE: Princeton offer pending
Is this info in reference to the open position or the non-US societies position?
Loyola Marymount has a short list and is picking its final three from that starting this week.
Any news on whether they have made an offer or anything at UBC in Vancouver?
Thanks!
Ithaca, Houston, and North Florida have brought in or scheduled interviews.
Re: Loyola Marymount
Thanks for the update. They seem to be moving fast...
I received a rejection letter from University of Vermont today.
UC Davis made offers this week.
Got rejection letter from UNC Chapel Hill today....
Does anyone know anything about:
Mesa State
Quinnipiac
James Madison
CW Post
?
Still keeping an eye out for news re. IUP and PLU also.
Thank you.
I don't think this needs confirming, but in case anyone missed it - I received my rejection from UMass - Amherst.
Re: Long Island CW Post
Is this the same position as the Long Island one on the wiki? I'd love to know as well. CW Post never confirmed they received my app. Has anyone had the same experience?
Yeah, I asked about that when the LIU stuff was posted but didn't get an answer. I applied to CW Post but wasn't sure if there was another LIU position - seemed fast for Post. I haven't heard that they received my app either.
"CW Post never confirmed they received my app. Has anyone had the same experience? "
It happened to me. I emailed the committee chair to see if they have received my application, but I never got his response.
Is the Tennessee listing on interviews pertaining to the criminology position? What about the environment position? Any invites for that one?
Kentucky has contacted folks for interviews...
-nick
Chapel Hill has also contacted people for interviews.
Marymount Manhattan -- I think they are already hiring someone.
Re: Long Island CW Post
Who are you contacting regarding the position? Their ad was so dismal and the webpage not very informative.

Cal State Polytechnic, Pomona has just invited people for on-campus interviews.
~Zen
I just thought it worthwhile to mention that, while I have found the blogs and the wiki an interesting resource, they should be taken with a grain of salt. I've now (twice) been contacted by places that have LONG been listed as having invited candidates for interviews. Wait till the rejection letter comes to presume you are completely out of the running somewhere.
what about the naming names of those who get jobs? what do people think about that?
Illinois State (demog search) contacted short list to schedule phone interviews.
to echo the fact that some places listed on the wiki are still contacting folks, so don't count yourself out yet -
I was just contacted by Marquette and they are just starting to review applications for the second of three positions, so while it sounds like one search is over/candidates have been interviewed, they are just getting started on the other two, even though they've been up on the wiki quite awhile now.
So a ray of sunshine in my day, and hopefully some hope for others as well :)
~Felix~
"Illinois State (demog search) contacted short list to schedule phone interviews."
Did they contact people using phone or email?
Re: Marquette.
I'd like to echo Felix. Got a similar email today.
Marx
Dang, did Marquette pull a Reed and send that email to about half the people they got apps from?
(Me three.)
me 4 on Marquette...
Re: Marquette
I am 5.
It seems like they did the Reed thing :)
UNC-Wilmington is requesting additional materials from shortlisted candidates.
I got the e-mail from Marquette - so that's six.
I got an email from Marquette - nice to know they are being selective only contacting the 7 of us!!
:)
Haha, Marquette, you are so busted! Make that 8.
Damn, nothing from Marquette! Congrats to all of you. Which position is this that they're starting now?
kyle
re: Illinois State demography position
I received first a call (voice message) on my cell, then an email.
I see on the wiki that Marquette is scheduling phone interviews. The letter I got from them only said they are still interested but no mention of a phone interview. What does that mean?
hey, i'm in the marquette club after all. it ended up in my spam folder ;-)
kyle
Max.
American has scheduled interviews, or so I hear it third-handedly.
Max.
I'll add UNC-Charlotte and their chair, Charlie Brody, to the list. Their rejection letter was kind and classy, and Charlie even wrote some words of encouragement on the side.
kyle
I got the email from Marquette, so that makes 10. I wonder whether it's a long short list or whether they actually emailed half their applicants. How many others got this email?
Make it eleven.
Make it twelve.

Did Bard ever invite candidates?
Does anyone know about the status of the UMASS soc search?
The UMass search has made offers for some positions, which are pending. No offer has been made for the criminology position, and it is unclear whether an offer will be made on the basis of current candidates, or bring in more interviewees, or just wait until next year.
Not sure if that's helpful to know.
Re: Bard.
They have invited candidates out for an interview.
Urban search at Georgia State...wondering about the status, anyone know?
Anybody heard any rumors about:
Virginia Commonwealth (crim/med soc or demog)
Tennessee-Knoxville (Crim or Enviro)
Bard was my last hope for a decent job. Tears, tears, apathy.
Did LMU select its campus invitees?
Columbia University has offered its junior position to someone in my department.
Two positions I'm curious about, neither of which have yet been mentioned on here:
- Fordham
- CUNY-Queens
Got a letter last night saying that Florida Southern has cancelled its search. Made the change on the wiki.
